I read this somewhere, and I wanted my facts straight before I make a fool of myself. Is it true that the French Navy have never won a single battle?
The French navy won several battles battles, most notably the Battle of the Capes outside Yorktown, Virginia. The French navy also had success against Royal Navy units in the Indian Ocean.
However, the French fleet ceased to be a global power after its defeat at Trafalgar in 1805. Though the French navy continues to exist, it has been completely overshadowed by the Royal Navy and the United States Navy.
BTW. Though the French naval victory at the Battle of the Capes sealed the fate of the British at Yorktown, it is inaccurate to say that if the French navy had not won, the American Revolution would have been lost. Even had the Royal Navy resupplied Cornwallis's army, it is doubtful that the British could have lifted the siege. Maybe Cornwallis and his troops could have been evacuated, but the British would probably still wanted to end the war.
The success of the American Revolution owes much to France, but it was not the only reason we gained our independence. Is it true that the French Navy have never won a single battle?
Well, let's see. If the French Navy had never won a battle the United States wouldn't exist. The Seige of Yorktown was, largely, conducted by the French under Lafayette, who had financed his own ships and troops and refused payment for his assistance in our revolution.
Although Washington and Rochambeau receive credit for the victory, the battle was mostly over when they arrived. The French Navy had prevented the British navy from resupplying their troops.
Admiral De Grasse commanded the French navy. Just prior to this siege was the battle of the Virginia Capes in which the French defeated the British in Sept. 1781, days before the Battle of Yorktown.
Thank you, France, for making me an American with the freedoms that I enjoy and my government is trying to take away from me.
I will not surrender.
That would be wholly inaccurate.
In fact, America has its independence because the French Navy won a decisive victory against the British Navy and cut off reinforcements to General Cornwallis at the Battle of Yorktown.
General George Washington and General LaFayette were then able to lead an attack that forced General Cornwallis of the British Army to surrender. It was the final battle of the American Revolution.
the united states wouldn't exist without the french navy. Not only did they fight the british in the americas they disrupted the british empire in India, hong kong and africa all at the same time while people like george washington didn't even know what was happening in the wider world.
Actually, the French Navy did have some success taking it to the British Navy. The British and French Navies were the largest Rivals of the high seas AFTER the Spanish Armada was defeated in the North Sea.
Prior to this, it was the Spanish and the British.

French Navy Victories:
Battle of La Rochelle - June 22, 1372
Battle of Fleurus - 1690
Battle of Beachy Head - 1690
Invasion of Minorca - April 20th, 1756
Battle of Navarino - October 20, 1827
Battle of Foochow - 1884
thats not true. The french navy is and has always been high tech stuff, and since 1600 its been up there with the royal navy and more recently US navy as the best in the world. Its the french army however that has never won a single battle except against themselves or unarmed children
Aside from our War of Independence, the French Army, Navy and Air Force have never won a single battle without the help of the U.S.
Not true.
Also, what Pacifist Warmonger writes is partly correct. He left out a lot of details.
That's why the new French Navy have glass bottom boats..
So they can see the old Navy.
You mean in recent history from World War I until now. None
