What is the true difference between a ';double room'; and a ';single room'; in London?

Thsi is for the benefit of the Americans and Canadians who are coming on over. What is the true difference between a ';double room'; and a ';single room'; in London?
A double room has a double bed (and occasionally an additional single bed) and is charged on the basis of two people staying there. Children under a certain age are usually free if staying in the single with parents.

A single has one single bed and is for one person only.

The cost of a double room is about one and a half times that of a single but varies wildly from place to place. London can be an expensive place to stay so it's best to do your homework before you arrive. What is the true difference between a ';double room'; and a ';single room'; in London?
How much you like the person with you....and how much money you have. AND...an extra mint on the pillow....for 50 bucks.
a double room is if your a couple (or u just want a big bed) nd it haz a double bed nd a single room is just one person and has a single bed
single- occupies one person, eg one bed and little if any amenities,

double- occupies two people, eg double bed and maybe some small amenities. advertisers should display what if any amenities are included with the accomodation. eg shared bathroom, kitchen usage etc. if not ask!!
