Is it true that Laurel & Hardy once, had a number one single?

My Dad insists that this happened. Of course years later,as the charts were not invented until about the 1950's onwardsIs it true that Laurel %26amp; Hardy once, had a number one single?

Laurel and Hardy had a hit called ';On the trail of the Lonesome Pine'; with The Avalon Boys and featured Chill Wills. It was on the United Artists label but only reached No2 in the British charts on 22nd November 1975.Is it true that Laurel %26amp; Hardy once, had a number one single?
On the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
