Is it true that single crochet is double crochet in Australia?

I'm trying to crochet some amigurumi whales,

It doesnt say double crochet just single crochet for the pattern.

But when i crochet other amigurumi dolls i see that it says

single crochet(double crochet in USA, Aus)

Do i have to double crochet in the pattern? Is it true that single crochet is double crochet in Australia?
What we in the U.S./Canada call ';single crochet'; is called ';double crochet'; in the U.K./Aus/NZ What we in the U.S./Canada call ';double crochet'; is called ';treble crochet'; in the U.K./Aus/NZ Here's a link to a translation chart: http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/includ鈥?/a> (It shows only ';U.S.'; which includes Canada and only ';U.K.'; which includes Australia and New Zealand.)

I don't know where you are in the world nor what amigurumi pattern for a whale you're following. The only pattern I could find on the Internet for a whale uses U.S. ';single crochet,'; which is done by inserting the hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull a loop through the stitch (two loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops on hook--1 sc made.

And I have to say--most of the amigurumi patterns I've encountered use the sc stitch described above. Is it true that single crochet is double crochet in Australia?
No you cannot double crochet in a amugurumi because the stiches would be big and when you stuff you whale it would all come out and look horrible ans messy so just use Usa standard singing crochet

( insert hook into stich , yarn over ,pull thru all)

Good luck
